Here is a wonderful self-guided holiday to discover the wonders of Tuscany. This carefully selected itinerary will appeal to almost everyone, especially to nature and history lovers.

Apart from the beautiful scenery and the ancient sites, you will get a taste of local gastronomy and wines. This auto tour will offer you the occasion to travel and walk in different areas of Tuscany and will provide you with a full insight of this fantastic region.

Pisa tower and surrounding hills

On the first day, you will visit one of the most unmissable sites of Tuscany : the leaning Tower of Pisa. You will drive on country lanes away from the main roads to reach the tower. On the way back to the picturesque fortified town of Lucca, you will pass Monte Pisano; a good occasion to put on your walking boots! The proposed walking tour takes about 3 hours and is an easy walk.
About 70km of road.
Stay in a 2** hotel in the city centre of Lucca.

Following Leonardo da Vinci’s tracks

After a nice walk through Lucca’s ancient winding streets, and along the top of its fortified walls, you can enjoy local food at a “Trattoria” before taking the road to Vinci. This is the birth place of Leonardo da Vinci where you will find a pretty village situated in the heart of this wine growing region. Worth visiting is the interesting museum all about Leonardo da Vinci’s life and work.

Walking in Leonardo de Vinci’s homeland

The start of the walk is right at the house where Leonardo was born. From there, you will walk to the top of Montalbano with its fantastic views of typical Tuscan scenery.

Distance: 11.5km.
Maximum altitude: +629m.
Walking time : 4 to 5 hours.

In the Chianti, from Vinci to Sienna

En route to the South to discover the ‘picture postcard’ Tuscany, you will cross the region of Chianti with its numerous vineyards and olive groves. The highlight of the day, where you will stay the night, is a charming little village in the Sienna region. Today you will have the opportunity to taste wine, eat good local food and visit ancient cities like Impruneta, Greve in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, Radda in Chianti.

The Sienna region

Today will leave you with many fantastic memories. You will visit Sienna and its Piazza Del Campo, San Gimignano and its towers, including Volterra, the magic one. We also propose an easy short walk to visit ancient ruins.
Walking time: 1h30.
Distance: 5km.
Stay in 3*** hotel on a hill close to San Gimignano.

Hike to Monte Soldano

This is your walking challenge of the week! It is the longest and hardest hike but the most rewarding. This very nice loop will lead you through forests as well as to the famous Tatti-Berignone’s canyon.
Distance: 15km.
Maximum Altitude: 518m.
Walking time: 6 to 7 hours.
Stay in a 3*** hotel on a hill close to San Gimignano.
